GROHE Blue

CO2 cylinders:

How can I order CO2 cylinders?

CO2 cylinders are easy to purchase from our online shop. You can also order refills for empty GROHE CO2 cylinders. More information on the order process is available on our online shop ( https://shop.grohe.com/).

Will cylinders from other manufacturers fit?

Unfortunately, 425 g CO2 cylinders are not standardised in the EU and valves and connections vary. Using a third-party CO2 cylinder can therefore result in damage to the CO2 pressure reducing valve and the seals built into it. This can lead to CO2 escaping, which endangers your health as the user. If the system is damaged by a third-party CO2 cylinder, the voluntary manufacturer’s warranty will be void. Only by using our CO2 cylinders can you therefore be sure that everything fits and is in full working order.

Can CO2 cylinders larger than the 425g cylinder be used?

No, only original GROHE 425 g CO2 cylinders fit. Larger cylinders and/or cylinders from other manufacturers may not be used.

Will CO2 cylinders larger than the 2 kg cylinder fit?

No, only 2 kg CO2 cylinders fit. Unfortunately, larger cylinders cannot be used.

How do I dispose of a CO2 cylinder?

If you no longer wish to use your existing CO2 cylinders and do not wish to refill them, you can dispose of your CO2 cylinders at your local recycling centre. More information is available from your local waste disposal company.

Can I also install the CO2 cylinder horizontally?

No, CO2 cylinders should only be installed and stored/transported in an upright position.

How many litres does my CO2 cylinder hold?

425 g CO2 cylinders hold approx. 50 – 60 litres, 2 kg CO2 cylinders hold up to 350 litres.

How can the system tell that the CO2 cylinder is empty?

Consumption is calculated based on the flow rate. For instance, if a little more CO2 than usual escapes your CO2 cylinder when you screw it onto your GROHE Blue system, your system will not be able to take this into account. The system does not weigh the CO2 cylinder. That is why it is always important to reset it once the CO2 cylinder has been replaced.

Filters:

Which filter fits my system?

Home:

The system is set on the basis of local carbonate hardness (°dKH). If the carbonate hardness is <9° dKH, please use activated carbon filter 40547001. For carbonate hardness >9° dKH, use the enclosed standard filter. For carbonate hardness >9° dKH, instead of using the standard filter, you also have the option of using the magnesium filter 40691001.

Prof:

The system is set on the basis of local carbonate hardness (°dKH). If the carbonate hardness is <9° dKH, please use activated carbon filter. For carbonate hardness >9° dKH, please use one of the standard filters, depending on your expected consumption. For carbonate hardness >9° dKH, instead of using the standard filter, you also have the option of using the magnesium filter 40691001.

What does the filter remove?

The already high-quality tap water is purified in four stages and its taste is improved.

1. The pre-filter fleece removes large particles.

2. The ion exchanger reduces the lime content, filters out heavy metals such as lead and copper from the water, and makes it softer.

3. The activated carbon filter removes substances that impair the odour and taste, such as chlorine and organic compounds.

4. The fine particle filter captures all particles above a size of 10 μm.

How do I reset the filter?

Once the filter is replaced, press the button on the left on the cooler/carbonator and hold it down until “rF” starts flashing on the display. Then release the left-hand button and press it again until “rF” stops flashing. The message “99” will now appear (= residual filter capacity). The filter is then reset.

Will filters from other manufacturers fit?

No, only original GROHE filters fit.

How do I get new filters?

You can buy new filters from our online shop ( https://shop.grohe.com/), for instance.

How do I dispose of the filter?

The used filter is disposed of with the residual waste.

Can I also install the filter horizontally?

Yes, the filter can also be installed horizontally.

How long will the filter last?

The maximum shelf life of an unopened replacement filter cartridge is two years

How do I adjust the system to the filter?

The system is set on the basis of local carbonate hardness (°dKH). To do this, you can use the enclosed measuring strips. An overview of what needs to be set to which value can be found in the guide enclosed with the GROHE Blue system. It is important that you adjust the cooler/carbonator and the filter head.

What do I need to keep in mind when I’m using another GROHE filter?

You need to “tell” the system that another filter model is now being used. This has to be set according to the table overview in the guide enclosed with the GROHE Blue system.

When should you change the filter?

The filter must be replaced after the capacity limit has been reached or after one year (whichever occurs first). The remaining capacity of the filter is shown in the cooler/carbonator display or the app. If the residual capacity is <10 %, the LED on the handle flashes and, depending on the settings, you receive a push notification telling you the filter needs to be replaced soon.

Can you use GROHE Blue and GROHE Red without the BWT filter if the water is very good?

GROHE Blue can only be used with the BTW filter.

What filter sizes are available?

There are 3 filter sizes: 600 litres (40404000), 1,500 litres (40430000) and 3,000 Litres (40412000).

Are all filters interchangeable with each other?

Yes, all filters have the same connections.

Where is the filter installed?

It is installed underneath the tap (e.g. invisibly under the sink). Either directly at the cooler or in another easily accessible location near the cooler.

Can I adapt the filter to different levels of water hardness?

Yes, the filters can be set to different levels of hardness. An adjusting screw can be found at the top of the filter head. Ask your domestic water supply company about the hardness level of the water in your local area.

Does the water supply need to be switched off when changing the filter?

No. Stop valves are already built into the filter holder. When the filter is removed, the flow stops automatically.

General:

Why do I need the cooler/carbonator? Can the cooling be turned off?

The cooler/carbonator is required for the carbonation of carbon dioxide in drinking water and is therefore necessary for the production of carbon dioxide in drinking water. The colder the water, the more carbon dioxide can be bound. The carbonator should not be switched off for hygiene and contamination reasons.

How large can the distance be between the tap and the cooler/carbonator? Is it possible to place the cooler somewhere other than beneath the sink?

With the parts enclosed with the GROHE Blue system, the maximum distance permitted between the tap and the cooler/carbonator is 75 cm. With the help of the extension set 40843000 available as an accessory, it is possible to install it at a distance of up to 5 m. This means you can also place the cooler/carbonator in an adjacent room or a cellar room that is situated underneath. Please note, however, that the hose extension should be kept as short as possible.

What is the difference between GROHE Blue Home + GROHE Blue Professional?

GROHE Blue Home is the solution for the home and non-commercial use. GROHE Blue Professional is the business solution, but can also be used at home. The difference lies in the systems’ capacities. The GROHE Blue Professional is designed for large groups of users.

What’s the solution for low pressure?

If you require a solution for low pressure, in addition to your existing low pressure tap, you can use the GROHE Blue Mono (item no. 31498001/31498DC1 GROHE Blue Home or 31302002/31302DC2 GROHE Blue Professional). Your kitchen sink would have two taps. Another alternative would be a combination with our GROHE Red. In this case, the existing low pressure boiler with tap would be replaced by our GROHE Red with its boiling water boiler and the special accessory Grohe Red mixing valve. Your sink would have two taps in this solution, too.

What’s the solution if I need a device stop valve?

Here you can use our GROHE Switch (item no. 40402000), a battery-operated stop valve for dishwashers, as an accessory.

What material are the GROHE Blue® hoses made from?

The hoses are made from PEX. This material is authorised for drinking water and is also used in the drinks industry.

How do I maintain the tap?

In addition to cleaning with the cleaning cartridge, the supply and outlet air grilles must also be cleaned regularly. The hoses, the carbonate hardness setting and the aerator should also be checked regularly. The filter head must be replaced after five years. GROHE also offers maintenance contracts. Please get in touch via our contact form if this is of interest.

How often should the system be cleaned?

The system must be cleaned once a year using the cleaning cartridge 40434001. To do this, you need a one-off adaptor for the cleaning cartridge 40694000 (this adapter already comes with the GROHE Blue Professional). If the system is operated in the public/commercial sector (e.g. in a company’s kitchen or break room), cleaning must take place twice a year. You can get the cleaning cartridge and adapter from our online shop ( https://shop.grohe.com/).

What is the adjustable temperature range at the cooler/carbonator?

The water temperature at the cooler/carbonator can be set between 4 and 10 °C. It is set to the coldest level in the factory settings. The colder the water, the more carbon dioxide can be bound in it. This means that an increase in temperature has an impact on the water’s CO2 content.

The system is not used for a little while (e.g. holiday). What do I need to consider?

If the system is not used for a period between two days and four weeks, it must be flushed before reuse: (Table in filter guide). If the system is not used for more than four weeks, the filter must be replaced.

What is the automatic flushing function?

In GROHE Blue Home, if you have not used the system for a period of 24 hours, the automatic flushing function checks via the app if water should be run through the system to prevent stagnation. Filtered water without carbon dioxide admixture then runs for around a minute.

Is energy required to run the tap and how much electricity is consumed?

Home:

GROHE Blue Home consumes approx. 0.0157 kWh of electricity in an hour. The values constitute an average over a 24-hour period with different drawing processes. The figure depends on a range of variables such as frequency of use and ambient conditions.

Prof:

GROHE Blue Professional consumes approx. 0.014 kWh of electricity in an hour. The values constitute an average over a 24-hour period with different drawing processes. The figure depends on a range of variables such as frequency of use and ambient conditions.

How far can the hose be pulled out?

The hose to the filter and the CO2 cylinder can be extended by up to 3 m. The hose from the cooler to the tap can be extended by 0.90 m. Caution: the electrical installation cannot be extended.

Planning

How large does the kitchen cabinet need to be?

Home:

The kitchen cabinet must have a minimum width of 300 mm and a minimum depth of 510 mm

Prof:

The kitchen cabinet must have a minimum width of 600 mm and a minimum depth of 500 mm. The cabinet opening must be at least 430 mm tall.

What’s the solution for waste separation systems?

We offer compatible waste separation systems for GROHE Blue so you can continue to use your kitchen cabinet for waste separation too. You can find our waste separation systems here: https://www.grohe.co.uk/en_gb/kitchen/accessoires.html

Do I really need to make sure there are openings in my kitchen cabinet and skirting board?

Yes, you must ensure there are openings for ventilating and aerating the cooler/carbonator.

Can I also install the cooler/carbonator horizontally?

No, unfortunately it is not possible to install it horizontally.

Is combination with FootControl possible?

For versions with a pull-out spout, is it possible to combine it with Foot Control?

What needs to be taken into consideration during the planning?

There’s a lot to bear in mind during the planning. The kitchen cabinet where the cooler/carbonator will be placed must be large enough. You should also check whether the tap can be positioned in the desired place, based on its dimensions. Furthermore, you should also find out in advance about the carbonate hardness (°dKH) of your tap water. If you have a water softening system that reduces water hardness, particularly carbonate hardness, you should also check the levels for your tap water.

Error:

How can I add more carbon dioxide to the water?

The carbon dioxide admixture is a fixed value. However, carbon dioxide binding in water is affected by various factors. The colder the water from the cooler/carbonator, the more carbon dioxide can be bound. Another factor is the correct adjustment of the water based on the local carbonate hardness (°dKH). If the carbonate hardness <9° dKH, the activated carbon filter 40547001 should be used in any case, as this will not make the water even softer. For carbonate hardness >9° dKH, you can use the normal standard filter.

When the filter is replaced, the new filter is loose. What do I do?

A seal has slipped in the filter head. Please put this back in the correct position to reseal the system.

There is a leak in the system when the cleaning cartridge is inserted. What do I do?

A seal has slipped in the filter head. Please put this back in the correct position to reseal the system.

I inserted a new CO2 cylinder. The system still reads “EC”. What do I need to consider?

Following installation of a new GROHE CO2 cylinder, the system must be reset. Please hold down the button on the right side of the cooler/carbonator until the display starts flashing. The message “ro” appears in the display. Then hold down the button on the right until the display stops flashing. If you draw water containing carbon dioxide, you will now be shown the remaining capacity of the CO2 cylinder.

When I draw water with carbon dioxide, there’s only a trickle. What’s going on?

The CO2 cylinder is empty and needs to be replaced.

The display shows error code E1, the handle flashes red, and filtered water does not come out of the tap. What do I do?

The cause is the pump's safety shut-off , which is why the voltage supply should be switched off for around 30 seconds before this comes back on. Another cause may be that the filter has not been fitted straight.

The display shows error code E3 and filtered water does not come out of the tap. What do I do?

Error code E3 is occurs when there is an issue with the connection between the tap and the cooler/carbonator. A defective plug-in connector could also be the cause of the error, which is why this must be checked. Please contact GROHE customer service if the error persists.

The display shows error code E5, the handle flashes red, and filtered water does not come out of the tap. What do I do?

This is caused by a cooler or carbonator error. To deal with the cause of this issue, the voltage supply must be switched off for 30 seconds, then switched on again.

The display shows error code E7 and the handle flashes red. What do I do?

Error code E7 means that the system has detected humidity inside the cooler. To solve this issue, the voltage supply must be switched off for 15 minutes, then switched on again. If there is condensation, the cooler will then be ready for operation again. If leakage occurs, the error message will reappear and GROHE customer service must be consulted.

The display shows error code E8 and the handle flashes orange. What do I do?

Error code E8 is caused when the filter capacity is exceeded. To deal with this error, the filter cartridge must be replaced straight away. The end user can easily do this. A guide to replacing the filter cartridge is available on our website.

The display shows error code E9 alternating with HI. What do I do?

The error code E9 means that the cooler/carbonator has overheated. To deal with this error, ensure that the GROHE Blue handle is closed and the cooler-carbonator is sufficiently ventilated. The ambient temperature should be no more than 32 degrees. The cooler should be cooled down for at least 10 – 15 minutes. The error code E9 can then be reset.

How do I reset the error code E9?

The error code E9 means that the cooler/carbonator has overheated. To deal with this error, ensure that the GROHE Blue handle is closed and the cooler-carbonator is sufficiently ventilated. The ambient temperature should be no more than 32 degrees. The cooler should be cooled down for at least 10 – 15 minutes. The error code E9 can then be reset.

Error code E9 is reset and EE now appears on the display. What do I do?

If EE flashes or the problem cannot be rectified, interrupt the voltage supply to the cooler/carbonator. You should also note down the serial number of the cooler/carbonator and consult a specialist installer or contact the GROHE Service Hotline via email under TechnicalSupport-HQ@grohe.com. Note: the GROHE Blue Home cooler/carbonator may only be repaired by GROHE customer service.

The display reads EC and the handle flashes white. What do I do?

Error code EC is caused by a CO2 cylinder that is almost empty or has not been reset. The error can be dealt with by replacing the CO2 cylinder and resetting. A guide to replacing and resetting the CO2 cylinder is available on our website.

No water is flowing from the GROHE Blue tap. What do I do?

This error may have several causes. First of all, check whether the filter has been inserted correctly. If so, check the hoses for kinks. The water supply must also be switched on. All stop valves must be fully open.

I cannot sign up with GROHE to register my product. What do I do?

To register a product, you must have a GROHE account. Alternatively, you can sign up with GROHE using an existing Facebook or Google account.

The GROHE Blue cooler access point is not visible. What do I do?

The cause may be that the configuration mode/access point is not activated. To deal with the problem, press the buttons on the GROHE Blue Home cooler for at least 3 seconds until SE flashes on the display. In addition, Wi-Fi must be activated on your smartphone and you must have a continuous, uninterrupted Internet connection. If you can only see other wireless networks, consult GROHE customer service.

GROHE Blue network integration has failed. What do I do?

The cause is that the GROHE Blue Home cooler is out of the range of reception. To deal with this issue, you must change the location of the Wi-Fi router or use a Wi-Fi repeater.
